Job description

The Director of Public Relations will be responsible for promoting the firm's brand, developing strategies and tactics around PR campaigns, working with Business Development Managers and attorneys to promote individual, office and group practices, and industry teams, and helping to identify topics that will promote the firm's experience and knowledge. This position will drive external media opportunities for client’s West Coast office locations as well as assigned practices, industries and firm initiatives. The Director of Public Relations will also prepare attorneys for media opportunities and support any firm external communications programs. The Director of Public Relations will report to the firm's Chief Marketing Officer. Office location is flexible.  


  • Primary Responsibilities  

    • Work with the CMO and practice leaders to develop PR strategies.
    • Develop PR strategies to build regional and national reputations for the firm’s platform, strategic initiatives, and growth.
    • Secure media placements in appropriate media outlets including print, broadcast, online and social media.
    • Develop and cultivate relationships with reporters and editors.
    • Prepare attorneys for media interviews.
    • Write news releases, media alerts, media pitches, social media posts, briefing documents, etc.
    • Work collaboratively with Business Development Managers and attorneys to ensure that PR is part of an attorney's mix of marketing/business development efforts.
    • Track and analyze media results.
    • Prepare internal communications as needed.


    • Bachelor's degree or higher level of education.
    • At least 10 years of experience working in public relations, experience supporting professional services is preferred, but not required.
    • Strong news sense with an understanding of the needs of various media outlets.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal audiences.
    • Superior writing skills.
    • Excellent verbal skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
    • Strong commitment to meeting all deadlines.
    • Deep understanding of social media.
    • Possess a sense of urgency while being proactive
